The author has novelized a pre-Civil War Appalachian tale and woven it into "a luminously dark tale of and for our times." Boards are lightly edgeworn and soiled, backstrip has light damp damage, hinges slightly weakened, ink numeral in upper corner of front free endpaper, lower 2 1/2 inches on page fore edges dampstained with some bleediing into margins, text block very good and bindinig is tight; jacket is edgeworn, chipped, lightly soiled, spine dampstained and clear tape on lower 2 inches.
