Signed by Author(s) 10 3/4 inches, SIGNED by the author/illustrator on front fly, 84 pages, illustrations that earned this book the Caldecott Medal, tan cloth over boards with pictorial and titles in red, pictorial dustjacket in Brodart protective cover. Lynd Ward made his debut as a writer for children with this book. The story is based partly on his memories of summers spent in Canada as a boy. Dried cellophane tape shadows on all endpapers (only one short strip on front endpapers but several on rear), otherwise book is near fine. Jacket has heavy edge wear, chipping, 1/2-inch pieces missing at spine ends, one-inch V piece missing from top edge of front panel, gold Caldecott seal chipped. is
